Global Action Week for Education (GAWE) 2026: Education Financing

With the looming failure to reach SDG 4 targets, the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) must advocate strongly for sustained and increased education financing. The Global Action Week for Education 2026 (GAWE 2026) is a critical opportunity for education movements worldwide to unite and lobby governments across the world to take bold steps to sustainably finance inclusive and quality public education for all children, youth and adults.

The GAWE 2026 campaign on education financing will build on the 2023 Decolonising Education Financing Campaign and pursue its advocacy during FfD4 to change the global financial architecture to dismantle systemic inequalities in financing, promote tax justice, challenge austerity and strengthen public financing of education. It will challenge false solutions to education financing such as the debt to equity swaps and innovative financing that promotes education as an investment portfolio rather than a human right and public good for all.

The campaign will also hold donor countries to account in their commitment to ODA for education, not as charity but as a matter of global justice. GCE will support and maximise political opportunities alongside the replenishment financing campaigns of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) that are both happening in 2026.
