DESCRIPTION:There is no education justice without tax justice. \nThis International Day of Education\, we’re zooming in on education financing. This isn’t only about how much governments allocate to education. It’s about whether funds reach classrooms on time\, are spent as intended\, and help close long-standing inequalities. It’s about public participation in budget cycles and accountability. \nBut national budgets aren’t the whole story. We also have to ask how much revenue governments are able to raise in the first place. A flawed international tax architecture is a major part of the problem. Even when countries want to invest more\, unfair international tax rules limit how much countries like Zambia\, Senegal\, and Nepal can raise—because the system is rigged in favour of the rich. \nThe Tax Ed Alliance systematically exposes this pattern and its devastating effects on the right to education. SUMMARY:Global Action Week for Education (GAWE) 2026: Education Financing
DESCRIPTION:With the looming failure to reach SDG 4 targets\, the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) must advocate strongly for sustained and increased education financing. The Global Action Week for Education 2026 (GAWE 2026) is a critical opportunity for education movements worldwide to unite and lobby governments across the world to take bold steps to sustainably finance inclusive and quality public education for all children\, youth and adults. \nThe GAWE 2026 campaign on education financing will build on the 2023 Decolonising Education Financing Campaign and pursue its advocacy during FfD4 to change the global financial architecture to dismantle systemic inequalities in financing\, promote tax justice\, challenge austerity and strengthen public financing of education. It will challenge false solutions to education financing such as the debt to equity swaps and innovative financing that promotes education as an investment portfolio rather than a human right and public good for all. \nThe campaign will also hold donor countries to account in their commitment to ODA for education\, not as charity but as a matter of global justice. GCE will support and maximise political opportunities alongside the replenishment financing campaigns of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) that are both happening in 2026.
