SUMMARY:International Day of Education
DESCRIPTION:There is no education justice without tax justice. \nThis International Day of Education\, we’re zooming in on education financing. This isn’t only about how much governments allocate to education. It’s about whether funds reach classrooms on time\, are spent as intended\, and help close long-standing inequalities. It’s about public participation in budget cycles and accountability. \nBut national budgets aren’t the whole story. We also have to ask how much revenue governments are able to raise in the first place. A flawed international tax architecture is a major part of the problem. Even when countries want to invest more\, unfair international tax rules limit how much countries like Zambia\, Senegal\, and Nepal can raise—because the system is rigged in favour of the rich. \nThe Tax Ed Alliance systematically exposes this pattern and its devastating effects on the right to education. The latest publication series\, Financing the Future: Delivering Quality Education as Envisioned in Sustainable Development Goal 4 gives a snapshot of the state of education financing in Ghana\, Nepal\, Senegal\, Uganda and Zambia\, and how reforms like the UN Tax Convention and a potential UN Debt Convention could unlock sustained investment in public education. \nWith the 2030 SDG deadline approaching fast\, investing in quality\, inclusive\, gender-responsive public education isn’t optional—it’s essential. \n📌 Follow the Tax Ed Alliance for updates and resources on education financing and tax justice.

SUMMARY:Tax Ed Alliance Reflection\, Learning and Planning Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Tax Ed Alliance came together for a powerful in-person meeting this month—a time to reflect\, learn\, and plan. \nSince this phase of our work began\, the national\, regional and global context for education financing has shifted dramatically. We took a strategic pause to look back at our achievements\, honestly assess ongoing challenges\, and chart our path forward. 📈 We also dedicated time to learn about tax and gender equality and how to connect this to our work on education financing. \nThe energy and commitment in the room were palpable as we discussed how to navigate these dynamic times and seize new opportunities. A huge thank you to every member and partner for the continued collaboration and insights! \nWe’re excited to continue this collective work to see an increase in sustainable\, progressive & gender-responsive financing for quality\, inclusive\, public education systems. \n \n#TaxPaysForEducation #RightToEducation #SDG4 #TaxJustice

SUMMARY:Launch of GCE Campaign on the UN Tax Convention
DESCRIPTION:Education breaks the chain of poverty. Access to quality public education for all children\, youth\, and adults is foundational to regional development. The GCE and Education Coalition of Zimbabwe argued for the need to have education as a separate thematic area in the SAf-CNGO.
